For you yourselves know that g we are destined for this. But we urge you , brothers , to a do this more and more , 11 and to aspire b to live quietly , and c to mind your own affairs , and d to work with your hands , as we instructed you , 12 so that you may e walk properly before f outsiders and be dependent on no one. And s the dead in Christ will rise first. We are not of the night or of the darkness. For that day will not come , h unless the rebellion comes first , and i the man of lawlessness 2 is revealed , j the son of destruction , 3 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship , so that he takes his seat in the temple of God , k proclaiming himself to be God.

In the ultimate sense, the day of the Lord is fulfilled with Jesus judging the earth and returning in glory. It does not refer to a single day, but to a season when God rapidly advances His agenda to the end of the age. It denotes the day when God intervenes in history to judge His enemies, deliver His people, and establish His kingdom.

And be at peace among yourselves. The first epistle to the Thessalonians was written from Athens.
