Beth Greene is far from a fan favourite character, but there's no denying she was on the road to becoming one of the show's most interesting and complex characters. She'd formed a bond with Daryl, confronted her fears about the world, and was then held hostage at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she had to fend for herself. The Grady episodes are lacklustre at best, but Beth's growth was actually quite good, and great to see considering how long she'd been on the show. But then, just as Rick, Daryl et al arrived to save her, she stabbed her captor Dawn Lerner, who then accidentally shot her through the head. It was needlessly cruel and made literally no sense, and it rendered her recent development absolutely pointless. It's hard to say Beth's death was anything more than a ploy to beat Daryl and Maggie down to new depths rather than effectively progress the narrative, and given how far she'd come and how much more she had left to show, it's infuriating that she wasn't allowed to stick around a little bit longer.

She was a member of the Atlanta Police Department and was charged with evacuating citizens as the apocalypse unfolded. Years later, Dawn commands the remaining police as they secure Grady Memorial Hospital. She is portrayed by Christine Woods. Dawn has been described as formidable and pragmatic, though she does present a softer side to her nature. However, this gentler side of her is merely a facade that she uses to subtly manipulate others to support her. In truth, she is a stoic woman with an obsessive need for control and is willing to overlook the corrupt activities of some of her officers to maintain an illusion of order. Stating that her people saved Beth's life, she makes it clear to Beth that she is indebted to them and must work off this debt as a ward around the hospital.
The Walking Dead may be a show about a world crumbling apart in the fallout of a rampant zombie apocalypse, but any diehard fan of the series will be quick to remind critics that it isn't a series about the end of the world as much as it is about what becomes of good people when their world ends. As such, certain characters prove to be even more villainous than the zombies that plague the world. He went up against his fair share of villainous rivals who would sooner have seen him dead than repent for their misdoings. While Rick faced many threats from the darker side of humanity, there are certain enemies that stand out in Rick's large rogues gallery. Not every villain on the series is as evil and conniving as those that would have Rick and his friends dead. Pete initially seemed like a well-meaning and friendly man, only to later be revealed as a violent drunk that often physically abused his family. Pete's demons proved intolerable to Rick, who had developed some feelings toward Jessie, leading to a bitter rivalry between the two that eventually ended in Rick executing Pete after he accidentally killed another survivor with a sword. Certain villains become so unintentionally, trading morality for control in an increasingly out of control world. Such was the case with Dawn Lerner, the former police officer that came to run the group surviving in Grady Memorial Hospital. In the show's fifth season, Dawn finds herself on the wrong side of Rick's team of survivors after kidnapping Beth Greene and Carol Peletier.
