Home Army Service Stripes. Soldiers are authorized to wear an Overseas Service Bar for every six-month period of active Federal service they accrue while serving as a member of one of the Armed Forces of the United States in one of sixteen specifically designated periods. Listed beginning and ending dates are inclusive and the months of arrival to and departure from the qualifying area are counted as whole months. Service periods shorter than six months but which otherwise meet the requirements for the award of an Overseas Service Bar can be combined to calculate creditable service toward the total of all authorized Bars. Also credited toward the three-year requirement is Reserve service creditable for retired pay for non-regular service, which may be combined with normal active Federal service to calculate eligibility.
