The Necromorph was a lone, mutated Xenomorph that terrorized the V testing facility on Jericho 3. While the breeding of the Xenomorph specimen was intentional by Dr. Gagnon , the necrosis it inherited was not. As a side effect of this disease, it displayed the unique ability to rapidly infect humans with a viral form of cellular necrosis that was carried by its host, Hassan Bagrov. The android Davis One and Zula Hendricks eventually managed to kill the creature, but not before it was able to reproduce. Other than retaining the basic shape of a human-spawned Xenomorph, the Necromorph was covered in lesions and pustules which could explode and project molecular acid due to its inheritance of cellular necrosis from its host. Because of its unusual morphology, the creature also suffered from negative effects, such as perpetual pain and torn between two conflicting instincts: one attempting to search for suitable hosts, and the other aiming to spread the fatal disease. The Necromorph had the ability to spread cellular necrosis virally by extending its inner jaw and expelling a black cloud causing its victims to cough violently and break out in raised black lesions and irregular patches of swollen boils. Necromorphs are a collective of undead creatures in the science fiction horror multimedia franchise Dead Space by Electronic Arts , introduced in the comic book series of the same name. Within the series, the Necromorphs are constructed from reanimated corpses and come in multiple forms of various shapes and sizes. They are violent creatures driven to murder and infect all life within their vicinity by a signal emitted from mysterious alien artifacts known as Markers. The Necromorphs' creation and design were led by Ben Wanat, who served as production designer on the first Dead Space and creative director of Dead Space 3 , though the team did not initially settle on the Necromorphs as the main antagonistic threat. Wanat's wife came up with the term "Necromorph" at a whim later in the development of the original Dead Space ; the team found it useful as an internal reference, but decided to limit its usage to a minimum as it does not match the serious tone of the video games series' narrative. The artistic direction on the various strains of distorted Necromorph monsters drew inspiration from seminal works such as John Carpenter 's The Thing , System Shock , and Resident Evil 4. The Necromorphs are intended to instill a sense of unease from the player's fleeting glimpses of their former humanity, though later games introduce other variants made from non-human biomass like dogs and alien lifeforms.
The Brute is a large Necromorph composed of multiple human corpses. It has heavy organic armor in its front and possesses extreme physical strength, making it a deadly foe in combat. Concept art of the Brute in Dead Space The Brute is almost entirely encased in an armored, spiked exoskeleton made from bone and calcified skin. Its posterior is relatively unarmored, and from it sprouts a pair of vestigial arms used for support if one of its main arms is cut off. The chest is a sack where the Brutes produce highly explosive organic material, made from the similar material as the yellow weakspots as well as a hole in the middle of the chest. The Brute bursts out these projectiles when its limbs are severed, not being able to attack properly.

The Necromorphs are the reanimated bodies of the dead, revived and reshaped into horrific new forms by recombinant extraterrestrial genes. These creatures are extremely aggressive, and will attack any non-necromorph on sight. The sole purpose of almost all Necromorphs is to create more bodies to spread the infection, while the role of one particular creature, the infector, is to specifically infect non-necromorphs to make more of themselves. Injuries that would kill an ordinary being, particularly the attack on necromorphs of where the vital organs of the host organism would be, have little effect on them, and conventional methods of attack require tremendous skill to kill or even damage them. Countless people have died due to not knowing the Necromorphs' only vulnerability: cutting their limbs off. The only effective way to "kill" a Necromorph is to shoot or cut enough of its limbs off to disable it arms and legs.
