In fact, a single punch from Gear 3rd was strong enough to make Rob Lucci nearly lose consciousness. His control over this ability has improved drastically over time as he does not face any side effects anymore. Luffy is still extremely great at using Gear Third abilities, and he can even combine them with elemental powers, such as flame and even electricity.
