Arendal 1723
Over the past few years, Arendal Sound has been building a reputation as a loudspeaker manufacturer that makes high-performance but arendal 1723 home theater-centered speakers. They are a Norwegian company whose main market is Europe, but they ship worldwide, and they are set up to be easily purchased and shipped across the globe, arendal 1723. They make THX-certified speakers that look nice enough to not be out of place in an upscale living room.
I was so delighted by the THX Monitors last year that I had been eager to see what their other speakers were capable of. I opted to review the Tower S THX , the subject of this article, because I wanted to see what they could do as a tower speaker, but not merely as an extension of the THX Monitors which I already had experience with. The S THX series scales back the regular THX speakers for a smaller size and lighter weight but keeps the same basic design cues. In theory, this should give us a similar sound qualitatively at the cost of dynamic range versus the regular series. This is probably a worthwhile trade-off for most people since few users of the series are likely to take full advantage of their dynamic range.

As it turns out, it was a fellow audiophile located in Belgrade that has just ordered these beauties, was familiar with my work, and was willing to loan them to me. So just before I continue with this review I want to thank Radomir for this loan. Arendal Tower THX are big and heavy speakers. It was a two-person job to bring them to my apartment, and not an easy one either. Once out of the box, you can see why, they feature a very solid build of thick HDF, weighing 50 kg lbs each. Another feature worth mentioning is that this is a bass reflex design with three ports on the back of each box. You can see the frequency response graph below showing you the difference between keeping it sealed vs opening all three ports. My particular listening room measures 4. After some experimentation and listening, I settled on only one port opened, which provided me with a deep but tidy bassline. Two opened were also good if I was aiming for a bit more bass emphasis. Anyhow, I find this solution with few levels of gradation very convenient since I do remember having speakers that sounded too lean when sealed, but too boomy when ported. Once everything was settled and ready to go, I connected them to my Acoustic Invader preamp and amplifier combination , with the preamp nowadays being a higher-end version of the same brand, named Fulcrum. This capable combination had no problems driving Arendal Towers. So how did these puppies sound?
I found it so impressive that arendal 1723 fueled my eagerness to further explore their other speaker collections, particularly the S THX Line.

The THX Series is the culmination of years of design, analysis, testing, and listening. There are no corners cut in material specification , whether you can see them or not. In the Premium segment of speakers, where others disguise steel with gold, we use rhodium-plated copper. Where others use plastics, we use machined aluminum. We did all of this because it delivers better audible results. Our HDF cabinets, thick crossover PCBs, and ancillary parts, feature engineering detail you will not find at anything like the price. You will find no plastic parts, even if we could have used them to keep costs down without affecting sound quality. It is a guarantee of tight consistency within well-established acoustic parameters. Where others skimp on cabinet thickness, we went thicker….

They are built to the exact same quality level with the same features, and core parts. The goal with S was to add a matching set of smaller-sized speakers, which would seamlessly match the Series without any form of timbre matching issues whatsoever. The only difference from the THX speakers, is the smaller 6. The optimal choice for more a compact yet incredibly powerful and dynamic sound experience. We have been asked hundreds of times to introduce a smaller speaker with the same qualities as the series. We did deliver and we are very happy to announce the S speakers. S for Small. A key requirement was that the S speakers should match the lineup allowing customers to mix and match within the same series without any bottleneck factors.

Where others skimp on cabinet thickness, we went thicker…. The overall design, as well as the THX-Ultra certification, suggests a stand-mount speaker with a relatively high dynamic range as well as controlled dispersion. If you want a neutral, more balanced sound, give the speakers a degree angle aim at the listening position. Arendal Sound has a well-thought-out plan for shipping, warranty and returns. Recommended Communities. This movie looked to be heavily dialogue-based, so I thought it would stand as a good test for dialogue intelligibility and sound mix elements that are less overwrought than an action movie. This is a very heavy-duty tweeter that should be capable of a far greater dynamic range than a normal dome. Another con of the monitors is that owners who want a matching horizontal center will have to use the Center speaker, but, as discussed before, the MTM design leads to a narrower horizontal dispersion when laid on its side, so users will want to be sure that listeners are seated within 20 degrees of the on-axis angle for the best sound. If your jam is electronic music or pop music, these speakers can rock and can scale up to a high loudness level without breaking a sweat. Rather than a wild design, the quality of materials and the manner of construction are emphasized with these speakers, and it is immediately apparent as you begin unpacking them.
This is as good as it gets, even at much higher price levels. An incredible value for the money with Hi-End build quality, finish, and custom-built components. Performance and sound quality for serious Hi-Fi and Home Theater setups you do not get anywhere else.

There are included grilles that use magnetic adhesion, so there are no grille guides on the front baffle, which preserves a very clean look. Erik Wesley said:. Joined Dec 13, Log in. Another very impressive attribute of the Monitors is the build quality. I have to wonder how effective a movie like this would be without the music; I would imagine that it would feel extremely dry.
