By Arkasaurio , December 22, in General Discussion. I even killed the vast majority of herbavores in the southern jungle last night attempting to get one to spawn. Hide for days, but no doed, not even a sighting. I must be doing this wrong, they aren't that rare right? At this point I'd be thrilled to find a level 5, so not being picky, just can't find one at all. Only real requirement is that it needs to be somewhere with decent proximity to the beach. I can walk a ways, but since I don't have a quetz I'll need to get the doed back to my raft for transport. Go up the main river just south of volcano and in the redwoods from there. There's usually several along the shores. I've been in the exact situation before on single player, and now am the offical "doed hunter" for my tribe on unoffical. Smack dab in the center of the south, there is a river that connects to the sea in two places, and then goes up to the swamp near the middle. Follow this river around, Doeds sometimes spawn along its banks closest to the green obelisk and rarely near the ends by the swamp. Beware that there are rexes and spinos here often, but you can get them onto a raft here with ease -Rarely, but also an easy place to get them if they're there is Drayo's Cove in the very southeast. They will rarely be in the cove closest shore to herbivore isle but again, rexes often live here, so be careful -Next, you can VERY rarely find them in the forests south of the swamp in the southern islets.

A big part of ARK: Survival Ascended is going to be taming and riding all sorts of dinosaurs and primeval creatures. It's possible to go at it alone or with friends, but help from creatures can make it a little less lonely, and they can help you out with all sorts of tasks around The Island. Creatures help you with surviving in the wild, fighting off wild creatures and other players, and harvesting materials like Wood or Oil. Some, like the round, rolling Doedicurus, are even better at harvesting certain things like Stone than tools, and have weight reductions for carrying them. Doedicurus are mainly found in the upper half of The Island , especially in the Redwood Forest , and around the two large mountains in the upper center of the map. They're uncommon to semi-rare spawns in their given areas, and as prey animals, they'll frequently get attacked by carnivores like Raptors and Saberooths, so you may end up finding most of them already in their defensive curl. You can use a flying mount like an Argentavis or Tapejara to scout out potential Doedicurus to tame and clear away carnivores near it.
Large and well-armored, it has a supply of fat under its plates to keep it warm and fed in the cold. Doedicurus has adapted well to the dangers of the island, perhaps even better than the Ankylosaurus. Doedicurus has two very different reactions to predators. Against smaller foes, it generally uses its spiked tail to inflict as much damage as possible. Against larger predators, however, it pulls its tail underneath itself to form a solid armored ball that is nearly impossible for creatures to pierce. Doedicurus is a highly prized work animal on the island. Its spiked tail is ideal for quickly swattering the large rocks, so Doedicurus is a very efficient quarry worker. And in case their quarry gets raided, Doedicurus-Riders have a very difficult-to-kill mount!

The Doedicurus Custosacum first appeared during the Pleistocene and Holocene period and is docile. The Doedicurus resembles an armadillo and is considered to be the best stone harvester in the game since they can harvest large amounts of stone with the strike of its tail. The Doedicurus with its signature bulbous tough hide makes it a unique looking yet well protected mammal in the game. In the wild, the Doedicurus is usually docile and tends to avoid combat as it wanders around but when attacked, it will retaliate unless it takes too much damage which results in it curling up to avoid taking more damage. They are docile in nature and will continue to roam around even in the presence of humans but once they are attacked, they will attempt to fight back by swinging they powerful tail.
