The Australian Council for Educational Research ACER is an independent, not-for-profit research organisation that has been supporting the transformation of the education sector for more than 90 years. Our mission is to create and promote research-based knowledge, products and services that can be used to improve learning across the life span. ACER develops and manages a range of testing and assessment services and conducts research and analysis in the education sector. By the end of the s ACER's total staff had expanded to five. ACER was established with a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York , a foundation itself established "to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding".
