One of the most beautiful and touching scenes from the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender happens in the Kingdom of the Northern Water Tribe, where Sokka meets and falls in love with Princess Yue. We soon learn that the Moon Spirit exists in two intertwining koi fish that resemble yin and yang, and, when one of them is killed during the Fire Nation siege, it renders all of the Waterbenders powerless. Yue, whose life was given to her by the Moon Spirit, sacrifices herself for the sake of her people and all Waterbenders to swim for eternity as one with the Moon Spirit.

As the titular character of Avatar , Aang represents the journey all the characters take. He's the whimsically naive hero who is shaped by his journey to becoming a master of the four elements. One of those few characters who start as almost a completely blank slate, being built completely by the connections he's made along the way. He may not be the flashiest in the whole series, but he's the perfect main character and one that rightly has his fair share of fans. It's hard to not be taken by some of his purity, and his abilities as an avatar make for some of the cooler moments in the show, some of which are shown in the tattoos below. Nothing is going to beat those moments when Aang powers up so to speak, gaining control over all four of the elements. Three of the four are rotating around him like they are the rings of Saturn. They all lacking coloring aside from the swirling flames which are a nice mix of colors, yellow and orange seamlessly blending into one another.

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in an Asian-inspired setting where gifted individuals can bend the four elements, with unique cultures and nations centered around each. While the Fire Nation is an innovative and aggressive place like a hungry flame and the Earth Kingdom is stoic and tradition-bound like the earth, the Air Nomad culture is entirely unique. In previous eras, all Air Nomad members were benders thanks to their strong affinity for spirits. These people were also known for their general pacifistic ways and the blue arrow tattoos on their heads, arms and legs. The arrow tattoos are more than mere war paint, however -- they represent everything that makes an Airbender master what they are. Ever since the long-lost days of Avatar Wan , Airbenders have been pacifistic, robe-wearing monks who are at peace with spirits and the natural world around them. At the time, those gifted with airbending from their patron lion turtle wore a more primitive version of Air Nomad robes, and most notably, they already had blue forehead tattoos and shaved heads.
