The legend of the Avatar begins Long ago, the Four Nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an Airbender named Aang, and although his Airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world. It is the first series in an eponymous franchise which takes place in a Constructed World divided into four nations: the Water Tribes , the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation , and the Air Nomads. Each nation has developed a spiritual art form to manipulate "Bend" their namesake element, but only the Avatar — a great hero who is reincarnated into a different nation each generation — is capable of mastering all four elements. The Avatar's role is to serve as a peacekeeper and protector for all four nations, as well as bridging and balancing the physical and spiritual worlds. One hundred years ago, in an attempt to prevent the Avatar from interfering in their war of conquest, the Fire Nation exterminated the Air Nomads. Unbeknownst to them, however, the reincarnated Avatar had sealed himself into an iceberg, where he was later discovered by two siblings from the Southern Water Tribe.

Heroic BSoD : Up until the end of Smoke and Shadows, she has a very difficult time dealing with reminders of Ozai and her time with him. Ninja : They train for many years in the art of stealth. Very appropriate, considering his nigh-godlike earthbending. Arc Villain : She turns out to be the main antagonist in the video game. She manages to make him exert himself, and he admits that she is genuinely impressive, but he was clearly in a different league. In their last few appearances, they are creepy because of their withered age and the fact that they teach Azula. Never mind the fact that she wholeheartedly agreed to keep their daughter under lockdown to keep her safe. And even when they do resist, they're severely underpowered compared to the show: the number of Earthbenders that it took to slowly move a small rock would have completely destroyed an opposing army in the show. Martial Pacifist : Aang being an Airbender and all only fights when absolutely necessary. Which ends up happening, we're never told until The Rift , where it is revealed that they eventually escaped from the cage. The Worf Effect : Has a winning streak at Earth Rumble 6 to prove he's good, only for his utter and complete defeat at Toph's hands to establish how outclassed he is — and how good Toph is. Didn't Think This Through : Any time he tries to out gambit the Fire Nation or enemy firebenders in general, his plans are filled with holes, ranging from excessively overkill at best and outright suicidal at worst. A brief flashback to Zuko's childhood sees him being tended to by Iroh and Lu Ten. Compared to acknowledged prodigies or young masters like Toph, Katara, and Azula, he is not seen to be particularly powerful at earth, water, or fire outside of the Avatar State. June has a snake tattoo on her left arm but has a professional job and only hunted tha Gaang because of it. The Ditz : Comes across as this with her bubbly personality. Dark Is Not Evil : Played with. Secret Test of Character : The ultimate reason he put Aang through those trials? The Hippo refers to himself and generally talks in Hulk Speak. Demoted to Extra : Book 2 has Ty Lee play a major role in the story as one of the Co-Dragons to Azula alongside Mai, appearing in a number of episodes and getting plenty of screen time. However, he does get a better idea of how to treat them without going off the slippery slope.
