Battlefield marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise.

Unlike previous games in the series, Battlefield is solely multiplayer and does not have a single-player campaign. It features support for cross-platform play , a first in the series. Battlefield received mixed reviews from critics and a negative reception from players for its technical issues, lack of features, and certain changes to the gameplay. The game failed to meet the sales expectations of Electronic Arts. Similar to its predecessors, Battlefield is a multiplayer -focused first-person shooter. As the game is set in the near future, it features futuristic weapons and gadgets like deployable turrets and drones , as well as vehicles that players can control. The class system is significantly overhauled and removes the four defined classes from previous games; instead, players can assume control of a specialist who falls under the four traditional Battlefield gameplay classes of Assault, Engineer, Medic, and Recon.

One final update for Battlefield has gone live prior to the start of Season 7. In early March, the next season of BF is finally slated to arrive and will bring with it a ton of new content that players will be able to experience in the months ahead. Prior to Season 7's launch, though, DICE has pushed out one last patch for Season 6 that ends this current phase of the multiplayer on a strong note. For starters, the game mode Control is now available to experience with this latest update having brought two new maps to the experience. Per usual, there are also a fair number of bug fixes with this patch that should improve the overall game just a bit.
