Support sarna. Fusion engines are the most common type of BattleMech and aerospace power plant in the BattleTech Universe. Fusion engines can supply great quantities of power, enough for massive vehicles and all of their weapon systems, including the directed energy weapons common on modern battlefields. When no thrust is generated, fusion engines are extremely efficient, practically never needing refueling. If properly ventilated, controlled fusion reactions generate little heat.

Like, can you "equip" Mechs with different engines that have different tonnages and movement speed, or are movement points and "ghost weight" based on the chasis itself? I guess light Mechs with oversized engines just naturally suck? I can see them having a role in TT games with lots of infantry, air units, and light vehicles - but the former two are non-existent in this game, and light vehicles get phased-out in favor of Manticores, Shreks, and Demolishers pretty quickly. These are covered in this appendix. Normal thermal expansion of the air causes the air to burst out in a brilliant lightshow often mistaken for a "nuclear explosion". Reply to quoted posts Clear.

Support sarna. The Extralight fusion engine often shortened to XL fusion engine , XL or addressed as extra-light [1] is mechanically similar to a fusion engine but uses much lighter radiation shielding. Replacing the dense tungsten carbide of standard fusion engines with a crystalline polymer similar to that of double heat sinks , the XL fusion engine is half the mass for the same performance. There is a penalty in bulk, however. The Inner Sphere XL fusion engine is twice as large as the standard fusion engine, while the Clan model is about two-thirds larger. The larger volume of the engines makes them much more likely to end up in the path of penetrating hits.

Can anyone post a link? Battlemech designers have operated for centuries on the basic assumption that making a battlemech heavier increased its ability to carry armor and weaponry, and therefore its performance in toe-to-toe combat. This page was last edited on 30 August , at These figures lead to the startling conclusion that it is possible, in some cases, to increase the combat potential of a mech by reducing its overall mass. So the reason why it's terrible is probably just because autocannons in general are bad. I played a few games in the dark ages for fun a month ago. For instance, all of the following BattleMechs have the same maximum cruising walking velocity New Earth Trading Company. Simply by using a standard engine, the Wight could be faster, keep its Heavy Ferro-Fibrous armor, and still have a half-ton left to use for other purposes. Zuthal View Profile View Posts.

Whoops - I don't want that to be the only comment I'd have to make I do believe it's possible to get a XLE on a superheavy displacement hull. And it would be cheaper, too. Large Internal Combustion and Large Fission, though, I don't really care that much what happens to them. Much like what would happen if you used aluminum in a can, then went up to lead. Saroyan Special Projects. Aircraft be being literally impervious to anti-aircraft weapons just isn't right. Support units don't have engine ratings. The inside of the engine would actually shrink in usable space. It seems like a little bit of a benefit with so many downsides as to counteract it to keep it balanced. Posted 09 May - AM. ERPLs are about what one would expect from that from an engineering perspective. Kressly Warworks. Light , extralight , and compact fusion engines are now available, in addition to the standard military version. A tiny bit hotter for a little more damage and accuracy at the same range brackets.
