Everyone is trying to find the book before its revelations are discovered — including her killer, who is more than willing to slay everyone at the modeling agency in the process. When David wolfs out, what ensues is a graphic transformation of man into werewolf. Its influence has been felt in every zombie film since and even on TV in The Walking Dead , and it remains a near-flawless piece of fist-pumping ultraviolence. The village is suffering under an ancient curse — and those who speak out about it meet bloody and untimely ends. Critics Consensus: Horror icon Wes Craven's subversive deconstruction of the genre is sly, witty, and surprisingly effective as a slasher film itself, even if it's a little too cheeky for some. In fact, he had plenty of cruel taunts for his victims. This is a tour de force of violence as five young people leave the safety of the world behind and journey into dusty Americana. The killing of Janet Leigh's character and the accompanying musical key by Bernard Herrmann is one of the most famous scenes in Hollywood history. As it happens, a British broadband service comparison website decided to conduct a science experiment to determine the same thing, and their results were… surprising, to say the least.

New year, new boo!

Subverting expectations, the film seems to set up Amblin-style hijinks from a resourceful kid, but those elements never come to pass, and his backpack of tricks is ultimately useless. The Thing plays fair within both genres, but leans more toward horror. Synopsis: Grace couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. Taking refuge in a nearby home, the killers soon discover they have checked into the house of the parents of one of their latest victims and find themselves at the mercy of the vengeful pair. The Others Critics Consensus: Smart, original, and above all terrifying, It Follows is the rare modern horror film that works on multiple levels -- and leaves a lingering sting. The ending is unforgettable — for the outrageous extremity of the violence, yes, but also for its tricky ambivalence. Directed By: Park Chan-wook. Only Ripley Sigourney Weaver is savvy enough to survive the alien's onslaught. Critics Consensus: While it could stand to be a little funnier and quite a bit scarier, The Blackening is a thoughtful satire that skewers horror tropes and racial stereotypes. Too bad for her it was only the first round. Directed By: Herk Harvey. Oh, and the ending is like being punched in the gut by nightmares. When a coroner is called to a small town to inspect the corpse of a maid, he finds a silver coin inserted into her heart.
