Animal Control manages and protects the animal population in Big Spring, enforces animal ordinances, protects the health and welfare of the citizens of Big Spring, and strives to place as many unwanted animals as possible in suitable homes. Animal Control helps keep Big Spring and Howard County citizens safe by providing pet care education and services. These programs work to reduce the number of unwanted strays animals in the city, minimize the threat of diseases such as rabies, and prevent injuries caused by animals. Only emergency calls are handled after 5 PM and on the weekends. Animal Control Officers, along with the Kennel Worker, are tasked with maintaining our animal shelter, working to seek adoptions of housed animals, and solving animal related problems in our community.
