Pathology has a team of phlebotomy staff providing a service for the hospital and several outreach centres in the local community.

We provide a range of community services in Harrogate and the local area as well as across North Yorkshire and Leeds. We collect blood samples from patients and send them to Pathology for analysis. We have now opened a drop-in phlebotomy clinic at Ripon Community Hospital — further details below. These services do not run on weekends or on public holidays. In order to have a blood test, it is essential that you have a test request form. These will be given to you by your GP or hospital consultant. The team provides a full phlebotomy service for hospital inpatients each morning, including weekends and bank holidays. Our phlebotomy team aim to ensure your experience is as efficient and pain free as possible. We understand that people can be nervous when having blood taken and every effort is made to put you at ease. We also understand that no one wants to wait a long time so we aim to be as quick as possible in taking your blood samples. On average, the majority of patients have their blood taken in a matter of minutes. If you have any particular concerns or questions about having your blood taken please let us know at the time and we will endeavour to help. These times are for adults and children aged 8 and over. There are also plans to provide additional afternoon and weekend sessions at the hospital, to cope with increased demand following the relaxing of coronavirus restrictions.
