The National Comedy Awards known as the British Comedy Awards from to is an annual awards ceremony in the United Kingdom , celebrating notable comedians and entertainment performances of the previous year. The show occurred on 6 December , but was not televised due to the controversy and subsequent investigations. In June , it was announced that awards were to be broadcast on Channel 4 for three years, which was later extended for one more year. Shortly afterwards, the ceremony was postponed until it finally aired in January In June Channel 4 announced they would be dropping the ceremony.

The British Comedy Awards has been the premier accolade for all comedy programmes, performers and producers across the UK television industry since The concept for the Awards was originally devised and produced by British TV legend, Michael Hurll to promote homegrown comedy talent. There is no biased jury or naive judging panel involved here - just comedy fans. Each year in January we open the polls, and tens of thousands vote to select their favourite shows. Every British comedy show that had at least one new episode broadcast between the 1st January and 31st December in the year is included in the nominations list unless a series spanned the New Year period, in which case if it was the show's only series in the year it'll be nominated in the first of the two years. In each of the categories, those voting can choose their favourite show, plus select a second and third favourite. The favourite selected gets three points, whilst the second and third favourites gets two and one points respectively.
