The British Psychoanalytic Council BPC is an association of training institutions and professional associations which have their roots in established psychoanalysis and analytical psychology. They bring together approximately registrants [1] of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy including psychoanalysts, Jungian analysts and child psychotherapists who as individuals become registrants of the BPC. It has an annual register of those practitioners who meet its continuing professional and fitness-to-practise standards. Promoting professional standards and acting as a voluntary regulator of the profession is a key role of the BPC. The BPC accredits the trainings of its member institutions, ensuring that they meet published training standards. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register. BPC registration then continues to be governed by a range of fitness to practise requirements:.

The British Psychoanalytic Council is a professional association of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy profession, publishing a Register of practitioners who are required to follow its ethical code and meet its fitness to practise standards. There should be clear information on how equivalence for applicants applying outside of the normal training routes is determined by the MIs. This will provide clearer information about routes to registration pending more substantive work to clarify education and training criteria. The BPC is to publish clear information about the education and training outcomes needed for registration with the BPC within 18 months. This should set out the standards of education and training that its MIs are required to deliver for their specialisms to be accredited by the BPC. This should be used to underpin decisions by a MI that a registrant has met the requisite standards for registration with the BPC, whether through its training or demonstrating equivalence.
