That all changed with the advent of State of Origin, when Test strength NSW teams began to suffer defeat by Queensland teams largely comprised of players from the Brisbane Rugby League. By the mids, the chance of a team from Brisbane joining the NSWRL was on the agenda, and after a couple of false starts, became a reality in , and the Brisbane Broncos were born.
