My God, these are almost pornographic. What did the parents think of??

T he Richard Prince photograph of Brooke Shields that Tate Modern recently withdrew from the exhibition Pop Life, after Scotland Yard suggested it might break obscenity laws, travelled across the Atlantic carrying a long history of controversy. It shows a year-old Shields, oiled and glistening, naked and made-up, posing in a marble bathtub with a seductive danger that belies her years. It tells you everything about what we fear and desire. Prince, Schorr tells me, has never met Shields. Intent on questioning notions of authorship and originality, he rephotographed an existing image that had already inspired two years of legal debate. It was one of a dozen images of Shields designed, according to Gross, to reveal the not-so-latent sexuality of the prepubescent child. Prince enshrined it as a kind of coda to celebrate freedom of expression.

In an interview with The Times , Brooke Shields spoke about her upcoming documentary about her life. The actress also reflected on posing nude at the age of 10 for Playboy magazine's Sugar and Spice, and her mother's role in encouraging her to take on these gigs at such a young age. In the interview, Brooke spoke about a specific moment in her documentary when she tells her daughters Rowan, now age 19, and Grier, age 16 that unlike her mother, she would have never allowed them to take on the roles that she did as a child. Brooke Shields speaks out on life in her 50s—'we get better with age'. And by virtue of protecting her, I was justifying everything, and that solidified that bond between us. Speaking about the nude photographs that were taken of Brooke for an erotic magazine when she was 10 years old, the actress admitted that she previously defended her mother's decision to encourage her to do the shoot. It was her that I was protecting. Brooke added that making this documentary allowed her to look at herself in a different way. I had to contend with so much at such an early age, and there was resilience, but also I put on blinders as a defence mechanism. The trailer for this documentary includes some disturbing clips of how Brooke was sexualised by the press at a young age and Brooke admitting, 'I'm amazed that I survived any of it. Brooke Shields was just 10 when photographer Gary Gross took photos of her posing nude in a bathtub in Wearing heavy makeup and nothing else, her body was later displayed in a series of shots published in Playboy publication Sugar and Spice. At the time she was just a little girl with her bare body splashed across the pages of a glossy magazine, but just a few years later she'd star in her first film role that would kick off her acting career. It's almost ironic that her character in that film, Pretty Baby , was a child prostitute. But the sad truth is that at just 10 years old, Brooke had no way of knowing or understanding what those nude photos meant, or how they would affect the rest of her life. Surprisingly, her mother Terri Shields was on board with the shoot, as she had long dreamed of her daughter becoming a star.

Before she had even hit puberty, Brooke Shields was one of the biggest names in s Hollywood. At first a child model, her breakout film role was at age 12 when she starred in Pretty Baby as Violet, a child prostitute in New Orleans. The film turned Shields into a teenage sex symbol, a representation that led to a number of trials and tribulations over the star's life. Now she's sharing the truth behind the tabloids in Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields , a two-part documentary directed by Lana Wilson , who also helmed Taylor Swift's documentary Miss Americana. The first thing that's established in the documentary is that Brooke Shields has been stunningly beautiful since she was born. It's this supernatural beauty that led her mother Teri Shields to push her into modelling at just 11 months' old.

She is now a multi millionaire with a still thriving career. That is what this photo is supposed to represent. In this fact is the pornography. What were the courts thinking? And, that goes for anyone else that thinks like you. Finally, it might be reassuring to recognize that it is highly typical of humans of all ages and genders to act on only a small proportion of the perceptions they recognize as sexually provocative. As for those of you who say the kids want this sort of unnatural attention, you are wrong and this is how the paedo justifies his own sick behaviour. These are just innocent pics of a little girl. Not that I agree with letting a child pose naked for pictures in the first place. The picture is a fine piece of art — period! Even socalled gospel truths have changed with time. Laws in society have been created by these same jealous zealots to cover up their genetic inferiority and to help level the playing field so ugly people have an opportunity to reproduce as well. An interesting fact? Perhaps his meds kicked in?

A magazine article, in which a thenyear-old Brooke Shields is described as "a sultry mix of all-American virgin and nascent whore" has this week resurfaced on social media, sparking outrage. The article, which was published by High Times in February , is overtly sexual in its descriptions of Shields, who at the time was two months away from the release of her movie Pretty Baby , in which she portrayed a prostituted child.

A very well-informed posting, and I think this captures many of my thoughts. To me these are just photos of youth, they are beautiful photos of an innocent child. But guys…when you really get hard after looking at these pics…take a very very cold shower and think about seeing a psychologist. Times have changed. I didnt feel like I was molested until when I 25 I told my family. You are welcome to disagree. This artform will never go away because it is part of us all. Im reading some of the comments to this opposition and they are so violent. Guilty conscience dude? Afterwards I suddered at the thought that had this been in the UK I might have felt a cold hand on my shoulder. Dirk, you sick puppy. By Emily Smith Published 4 March
