MEMBERS of a community social media page have teamed up with local churches to launch an emergency response team amid the coronavirus crisis. Gill Jones and Buckley residents group Tellett, buckley residents group, administrators of the Buckley Residents Group on Facebook, are collaborating with several churches in the town to provide the service and co-ordinate the community response to the crisis.
Work has begun to build 12 new much-needed council rented homes on the former site of 51 empty council garages in Buckley Close, Hangleton. We appreciate the work is causing some inconvenience. Please be assured the council and our contractors, Morgan Sindall, are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum. We will be updating this page regularly with information for residents about what's going on. Proposals for homes and a retail unit on land at Spon Green in Buckley were received by planning chiefs last week, prompting concerns from residents and councillors alike. A group set up to oppose the scheme, chaired by Buckley resident John Woolley, met in February during a consultation phase run by the applicant Skye Homes Flintshire Ltd. The next thing we will do is get our facts about why we think it is not suitable. According to the site, of the homes will have two bedrooms, will have three bedrooms and the remaining 51 homes will have four bedrooms. The scheme sees local volunteers contact representatives of the Facebook group and the churches to offer their services, be it by collecting and delivering prescriptions or shopping for the elderly and vulnerable - many of whom are currently self-isolating amid coronavirus concerns. Explaining the scheme, Gill said: "We have about 7, people on the Buckley Residents Group - so it's a brilliant opportunity to organise a large scale community response to the crisis. The scheme - which has been vetted by the Flintshire Local Voluntary Council - will see prearranged volunteers show documents of identification upon arrival at the homes they are assigned to help. On Wednesday, Flintshire Council's planning committee will decide on an application for the continued siting of a portable building the theatre uses as its changing room facility. Despite it having been situated next to the theatre for the last 13 years, Flintshire Council's planning officers have recommended the application be refused. Officers say its continued presence would be "harmful to the character and appearance of the site". Next door to the theatre is Hawkesbury Hall, which was made listed building in Planning officers say the portable building will "adversely affect the architectural and historical setting". Buckley Theatre Club performs pantomimes and plays at the Little Theatre in Securing a long-term lease from the county council in enabled many improvements to be made to the building including central heating, new toilets, and kitchen facilities. A TEAM which was set up to help vulnerable residents through lockdown is to gear down its activities as restrictions continue to ease. Since setting up, the team has recruited over volunteers and received more than calls for help with a range of different matters including shopping, prescriptions and many others.
