Calibrate zwift
Last week Zwift began rolling out updated firmware to Zwift Hub owners. The big feature of the latest firmware version 4, calibrate zwift. Essentially, auto calibration is the same as a manual spindown calibration… it just happens automatically every time you coast. So whenever you supertuck down a hill, or hop off your bike to hit the loo between your warmup and race, the Zwift Calibrate zwift will calibrate itself, optimizing power readings automagically.
Most smart trainers have their own spin-down calibration protocol which can normally be accessed and carried out using an accompanying app. This is always worth doing when first setting up your trainer, if you move it, change the set-up or every week or so. Temperature is the probably the biggest variable that needs accounting for and, in the same way you warm-up, so too does your trainer. To have confidence in your data, especially if your trainer is in a cold garage or shed, you need to do your warm-up and then perform a spin-down calibration. Log-in and do your usual warm-up - for both you and your trainer, this should be at least 10 minutes. Stop pedalling and hit A on your keyboard to go back to the Pairing Screen.

Share on:. Wahoo KICKR series of smart trainers all require to be calibrated for power accuracy when riding indoors. Wahoo has developed an app to perform this calibration on their device. Then, is it better to perform the calibration in Zwift or in Wahoo app? Stop wasting time deciding where to ride in Zwift with my Zwift route guide. Quickly choose a route based on distance and average gradient. So overall both options should work, but there are lots of people having issues with calibration and generally, it gets solved using the Wahoo Fitness app. A spindown test consists in measuring the deceleration of the trainer after reaching a target speed to measure the friction. If the wheel was not exposed to friction, it would turn indefinitely. But we all know that friction affects the wheel rotation. The more friction, the faster it decelerates. The objective of the calibration test is to quantify the friction seen by the trainer.
We will keep you posted about this. Related Posts. The calibration is internal to the trainer so if you calibrate it on the Tacx Utility app, calibrate zwift, it will carry over to TrainerRoad.
So then I tried to pedal to a normal calibration speed. The speed is being read and the app even tells me to stop pedaling but the calibration never succeeds. Looking into this now for you. Does it work when you are doing the workouts? Thanks for looking into this, IvyAudrain!
Most Zwifters realize that smart trainers are complex, expensive electronic devices which require calibration and properly-functioning firmware in order to operate properly. Yet many riders have never calibrated their smart trainer or checked for updated firmware! For all but a few smart trainers including the Tacx Neo line, the new Wahoo KICKR 5 , and most smartbikes calibration is necessary to ensure power readings are accurate. Firmware is the code which tells the trainer how to operate — updates typically result in increased power accuracy, more stable operation, and a better overall ride experience. We thought it would be helpful to publish it as a standalone resource, so here it is! The 4iiii app called "4iiii Device Configuration" on Android lets you update firmware and calibrate your 4iiii devices.

Smart trainers and power meters are improving in terms of accuracy and reliability as the technology matures, and I think the vast majority of Zwifters enjoy acceptably accurate power numbers today. Additionally, other riders may be using uncalibrated trainers or trainers with known accuracy issues. The only way to test the accuracy of your power numbers precisely is to compare them with a power meter you know is completely accurate. The easiest way to approximate your FTP is to look at your solo outdoor efforts on a flat stretch of paved road. Ideally, you would do a one-hour out and back effort on the flattest roads possible with as little wind as possible.
