Canela is a company that embraces the "do no harm" ethos by providing food that is plant-based we don't even have cow's milk for our lattes! It started as a farmer's market venture in the summer ofwhere we set up shop at a relatively unknown market. From then on, canela vegan bakery & cafe, the brand has been thriving and growing slowly but surely.

My sister loved all her goodies she got from here. The service we received was so amazing and delivery was on time. Delivery was fast.. Great to find the option…. Went there to get some studying done and change up my scenery a bit. Got there at 9am on a Sunday, stayed until about 12pm. Had their latte and brunch.

Before our wine tasting at Bricks Wine Company, Sunflower was determined to treat me to brunch. She added that it would be a smart idea to load up on food before our wine tasting. Sunflower is a good influence on me. The cafe is spacious and pretty. The glass windows emit natural sunlight that bounces off the white walls. The back of the room houses an open kitchen, while the front showcases a coffee station. I never drank a coffee with coconut milk, and I felt like a dinosaur when I admitted it out loud. I need to get out more. The coffee world has changed since Vegan food is tasty stuff! I enjoyed the creamy texture of the frittata, and the clean, simple flavour of the starchy filling, which reminded me of lo bak go Chinese turnip cake. Sunflower liked the addition of peas, a vegetable she stated is underrated. Tasting this dish inspired me to remake this at home. The filling was nutty and cheesy, with a bit of heat. Adding mustard was the perfect condiment to the warm, flaky crust.

Now, vegans and non-vegans alike can satisfy their baking cravings at the newly opened Canela bakery. Many Calgary foodies and vegans will already be familiar with Canela. Located in a small house just off of Macleod Trail S. Purists can try the classic roll with cream cheese frosting, while others many enjoy seasonal flavours like caramel latte, blueberry almond, Oreo and strawberry. But cinnamon rolls are just the tip of the iceberg. The bakery also makes chocolate-hazelnut and almond croissants, savoury rolls sausage, spinach ricotta and pizza , pies, lemon blueberry loaves, pretzel baguettes and more. It even makes its own vegan ricotta and Nutella for some items. The bakery also offers a vegan coffee menu, making all drinks with Barrow coffee and either soy, almond or oat milk.
