A very sturdy piece of glass, good weight to carry it around all day, attached to a big camera such as the 7D or 5D MarkII without getting tired. From what I can gather, quality ultra-wide angle lenses are typically very difficult to design and manufacture for SLR cameras, so tend to be rather pricey. Therefore, it's not a pro opinion. It has very little flare and loss of contrast, and it has great autofocus in daylight. My first L-lens. The focus ring has occasionally become a bit gritty when I have shot in the rain for four or more hours unprotected, but after a hour dry-out it is usually fine. The lens is very light and plastic-feeling; however, after 10 years of use in the rain, sand, being bashed into walls at weddings, and generally mistreated, it looks pretty much the same as the day I purchased it.
