When my friends wanted to know what I felt like eating for dinner Friday night, I knew exactly where I wanted to take them, chez kimchi, to Chez Kimchi for some Korean fried chicken.

On one spontaneous Friday night shopping trip into the city, J and I stopped in for dinner at Chez Kimchi. After hearing good reviews from various people, it was time to try it out. The menu has plenty of Korean dishes on offer. So many tasty sounding dishes that I almost forgot the separate fried chicken menu. Some of the fried chicken is coated in gangjung — a Korean rice cookie made of puffed rice, honey, peanuts and sesame seeds, and then you have your regular fried chicken in different sauces and seasonings. How do you pick?!

My first encounter with korean food would have to be 15 years ago, when I was still in primary school. At lunch time, my korean friend would eat from his shiny metal lunch box, which was always filled with a variety of delicious korean delicacies, while I would be nibbling on my strawberry jam sandwich. It was until I was in high school when I started to appreciate the korean cuisine. There are several korean restaurants in Canberra but Chez Kimchi would have to be my favourite place for a good fix of korean food. Chez Kimchi is a fairly new restaurant located in the hear of the city.

All the pancakes are served with a slightly spicy vinegar dipping sauce. If you are eating with friends and family, I would recommend you skip all the dumplings and go straight for the pancakes as they are more economical. I would have preferred the non-spicy version as this seemed to just get hotter and hotter the more I ate. Earlier this year, I went ot South Korea and consumed numerous Samgyetang , so when I saw this on the menu it was a must order. Despite being very busy and borderline overwhelming for the staff, they were still very friendly and attentive. Your hands and your face will be covered in sauce.
