Chkdsk eta

You currently have javascript disabled. Several functions may not work. Please re-enable javascript to access full functionality. Posted 31 October - AM. I had short health check to hdd. It looks alright. But I get permission error to run a file that's why I run chkdsk. Can I run chkdsk hours a day then shut down and re-run chkdsk again to continue where i left? I would expect chkdsk to take 1 hour 30 per TB give or take. It depends in part on your system speed and in part on the hard drive itself, but that is what I would expect. This suggests that there are an awful lot of errors on the drive. I agree with ET that you shouldn't interrupt a chkdsk operation, it's a good way to lose data, but I feel that this operation is going to hang up on you. If it does, your only option is to shut down the computer and see if it will boot. If it boots without problem then back up your data before doing anything else. Then I would run the Seagate Short and Long generic tests - in that order - or the WD equivalents if it is a WD disk, or use Crystal Disk if you prefer, to find out the condition of the drive.

My real goal here is to attempt to plan a maintenance window for the platform. I'm kinda thinking that if the drive speed and capacity is known; some super genius out there can guesstimate the amount of time a 'chkdsk' on boot will take. In my, albeit impatient, google searching I found a number of discussions of the different flags and what they do.

And unfortunately, I don't know how to create a boot disk I've googled this, but the instructions are beyond my computer comprehension.
