A global war ensues between the UN -formed Global Defense Initiative to contain it and the cult quasi-state revolutionary Brotherhood of Nod, led by the enigmatic Kane , which seeks to harness it. Developed as the prequel to the original, the Red Alert series was spun off into a separate, lighthearted and comic series, while the original game and its sequels became known as the "Tiberium" series, retaining its science fiction and serious tone. The first game is sometimes referred to as Tiberian Dawn as a result. Renegade was praised for its online features. The series is primarily developed for personal computers running Microsoft Windows , although some titles have been ported to various video game consoles and Apple Mac.

They're the pinnacle of simplified wargaming on the PC and these games best represent the series and its roots. The long-running series has had some hits and misses with its less than stellar free-to-play spin-off and the poorly executed Renegade FPS series. However, thanks to Petroglyph Games taking on the Remastered Collection, the series has renewed interest among fans old and new. This list has been updated to include spin-off titles and the new remaster released in Tiberian Sun was released in and used an updated graphics engine and interface that would later serve as the precursor for childhood classics such as Red Alert 2.
