Cox urgent care

Beginning next week, Cox patients who need late-night assistance have an option besides the emergency room. The hospital said this fills a gap for patients who had needs that didn't rise to the level of an emergency. That means the site is hospital-based, and treats injuries that aren't life-threatening, such as broken bones and abdominal pain, and offers X-rays, CAT scans and ultrasounds. Cox spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell said the center is open to the public, so anyone can be treated regardless of insurance status. To accommodate the extended hours for urgent care, the hospital added seven new positions, McConnell said. Springfield's other major health care provider, Mercy, doesn't currently offer hour urgent care, but they do seek to help their patients another way.
