A small, rounded tree, this Purple Flowering Crab Apple, as it is more commonly known, will grow to about 4 x 3 metres in 20 years making it an ideal choice for the smaller garden. The crab apples are not very useful for culinary purposes but are highly decorative, emerging as a deep red colour and ripening to black. The fruits are very popular with various wildlife and the flowers attract bees. This tree will thrive when planted in moist, well-drained soil and is also tolerant of pollution.
