Crane camshaft identification. Thread Tools. I want to buy a camshaft from a guy that says that it is a crane compucam He says that he took it off a crate engine. My concern is that the cam does not have a number cast in in, but instead it says powermax that is written by hand with one of those tools to write on metal. It's all by hand, not a fancy engraving machine or process.

Crane makes Blueprint camshafts for almost, if not, every GM, Ford, Mopar engine from the sixties and seventies. If you are confused as to which cam you should buy for your beast, Crane has you covered. They took the time to create a muscle car camshaft guide which can be found here. The guide even tells you what the factory part number for that particular camshaft is, along with their part number, lifter type, and all of the durations. These Blueprint Series Camshafts were designed for high compression ratio engines using high octane gasoline and they were also being used in cars with low end gear ratios.

This was a popular single 4bbl Super Stock cam in the late 's -early 's. Probably just the same generic grind for their Hi-Intensity series. I've seen some other cams this way as well.
