A chemical compound known as the film and a paper backing, known as the release paper. The film is either clear or white and printable on using a home printer, either inkjet or laser. Decals can be printed, sealed, cut out, dipped into water and released onto all non porous flat surfaces. Clear inkjet water slide decal paper is the most commonly used type for creating custom decals.

This home decal system allows you to use existing artwork from books, magazines, clip art or your own original art to create your own decals using your own inkjet printer. I have followed the instructions meticulously regarding printing, sealing with the recommended product, drying times etc, but I can not get the decals to slide off the paper. I've left the decals to soak for various times from 30sec, 1min to 5mins. It just turns into a gum like texture, distorts then tears when trying to slide off. I haven't used this paper yet. I did order it because the decals I make need the white background to reproduce correctly.
