One of the biggest driving forces for tourism in our area are the skiing options along the Niagara Escarpment.
The purpose of this post is to talk about a subject that is unmentionable in polite conversation around Collingwood. Because you never know if the person you are talking to is a member or just one of us regular folks. I believe private ski clubs on the north-east face of Niagara Escarpment should be open to the public. More in line with the Margaret Thatcher brand of conservatism, rather than the neo-con rich gets richer and the poor be damned type. I do however have a few socialist fibres buried deep within my soul.

At present there are a limited number of Senior memberships available. Senior members have rights and privileges but must accept the responsibilities of belonging to an exclusive Ski Club. The Under 40 Membership allows new Members that are under the age of 40 to extend the amount of time to pay their initiation fee. For people that stepped away from the Glen family in the past, the Club has a specific program for you. We recognize that life can take you in many directions and more often than not we find ourselves coming full circle. Retaining our younger members is the key to maintaining a sound Club membership and preserving the family culture. Many of our Senior members started as Introductory members. Introductory members pay the same annual fees as Senior members see the Fee Schedule enclosed , plus an annual premium per family. Adjacent to the Bruce Trail, minutes from Collingwood and 2 hrs from Toronto, the Alpine Ski Club is owned and governed by its members. Alpine offers a breadth of on-hill programs, with 35 trails over acres and over certified coaches on staff, recreational and competitive training is available for all ages in both skiing and snowboarding, as well as cross-country and snowshoe trails and a terrain park. Facilities include a contemporary open-concept club house, chalet, warming centre and on-site pro shop. Non-members can visit as guests of members or as part of mid-week programs for visiting groups.

No sooner does the first snowflake hit the ground than I am salivating about the start of ski season, looking forward to squeezing feet into boots, clipping into bindings, skating over to the lift and chatting with the friendly staff and members at Alpine Ski Club, who come back every year because they, like me, have winter sports in their blood. Alpine has been like a second home for my family ever since we first started skiing at the private club in My children — now adults — literally grew up on the hill, one on skis at the age of three, the other even younger.
