This tutorial for Devil May Cry 3 covers the basics of jump canceling and the overall advantages it will provide the player once mastered. For the sake of instruction, take Cerberus' aerial attack which is called Swing. If you can successfully hit an enemy in mid-air with Swing, there is a moment in time where Dante is actually touching the enemy. A simple press of the jump button during this moment of contact causes Dante to jump off the enemy back into the air. Once back into the air, you can attack with Swing a second time if the jump does not send you too high, and you press the attack button quickly. Once perfected, a skilled player can continuously stay in the air using nothing but aerial attacks and jump cancels. In addition to being able to increase time spent in mid-air, jump cancels also exponentially increase the deadliness of Aerial Combos.

Jump Cancel is a technique that appears in every Devil May Cry game. It allows the player to interrupt virtually any of the protagonists' techniques by leaping off the enemy at the exact frame in which they touch their foes, usually by using the Enemy Step or Leap abilities. Attacks like Rebellion's Aerial Rave that keep the enemy close widen the window of opportunity for leaping off of enemies, while attacks like Yamato's Slash Dimension C that push the enemy away make it much more difficult to achieve accurate timing. Certain attacks cannot be efficiently jump canceled at all; for example, the damage from Arbiter's Drop is generated by the shockwave, rather than the axehead hitting the enemy, so attempting to jump cancel would result in a whiffed attack. This process is actually required within normal gameplay to acquire a Gold Key in Mission 9. Devil May Cry Wiki Explore. Devil May Cry 3 Trial Ver. I'm no expert by any means, I loved DMC3 back in the day but only ever got good at jump cancelling the dive kick killer bee. I'm guessing the timing to pull it off is similar to the tightness of fighting game combo links, which I'm not good at doing either. Good grief It's hard but it looks cool. Then try doing a Swing, jump, 2nd Swing. The method of course is the same. You've got to go from Jump to Attack extremely quickly, with a slightly longer pause about half a second before pressing Jump again. Its difficult, but with practice it can be done regularly.
