I will try and explain this to you. The batteries represent a power source, no different than the secondary of a transformer which is providing power to your house. In the battery scenario you have three connection points either end and the center where the two batteries meet. The transformer secondary is exactly the same, it also has three connection points, the ends of the coil and the center point between the ends which would be your neutral. In the battery set up if you connect meter across the two ends you will measure 3 volts. The midway point between the two ends the neutral requires no connection to get volts with only two wires. I even asked an established electrician and he just answered because uses both sides and only uses one…hmmmmm…ok long as youre willing to keep trying im listening. Wikapedia has a flash graphic that demonstrates it perfect, but you must find the keywords as it was posted 3 years ago. The reason I asked if you remembered the example from the old thread is because in that old thread I said to ignore the battery polarity. Also think of the two batteries in series as a power source, the same way that you would think of the three wires coming into your house panel as a source.
The practical application of knowledge in home inspections is key. A lot of this equipment is designed to run on 50 and 60 hertz. If you forget the ground and just think about the two hot legs and the center tap you will get it.

On a circuit that originates in a main service panel it doesnt matter because neutral bar is bonded but it wouldnt be to code. By signing up you agree to our User Agreement. I knew didn't use a neutral, but no ground? Wiring for straight will typically have a hot-hot-ground configuration. My mistake with the terminology. For a v circuit, if there are only 2 wires it can't support v, and no safety ground connection, but it will function. Thats it. You should ensure it is grounded. King February 23, , pm Quoted: No statement was made about "current code" - just that it is indeed possible to wire a AC circuit with 2 wires.
The humble outlet is one of the most common fixtures in modern homes and businesses.
Grounding plays no role in how the voltage is measured. So I was using the white as neutral. My question is where do I tap in the new outlet wires? The basic concept is to insulate all the operating currents back to the service main and bond together all the equipment cases and a little thru a rod the earth, the rebar in the floor or footing, the water piping, any metal someone may contact is at the same potential without current flowing, bonded at neutral service main to deliver a fault current for a dead short to trip a breaker. The configuration of the blades determines both. We welcome your comments and suggestions. OSULemon Well-known member. Speedy Petey said:. Change wire routing to switches.
