I've got one of these door latches I'm wanting to install onto our front door - yet another minute job that I've hit a hurdle with. There was about a 30mm void inside the frame, between it and the brick behind it. I expected to find solid brick so had planned to insert lugs and screw into them, but the void means there's nothing for the lug to hold onto side view below. I considered using pop rivets instead, but thought I'd run this past the community here first in case there's a better option. I'm concerned that pop rivets wouldn't offer as much strength as screws etc, especially considering this is supposed to be a security device! Any suggestions appreciated, thanks a mill in advance. I suspect pop rivets would offer the same strength as the shortish timber screws included in that kit. I'd recommend going for the 4. The mechanism stops a door from being opened; it's not a security device on the same level as a deadbolt that will help prevent the door from being kicked in. However, I'd say the head and shank will be far too thick to pass through the pre-drilled holes in the latch. You might like to consider a security door chain instead. I believe some of these would allow you to fix into the bricks on the left of the frame instead of the door frame itself.

My internal doors have a door strike plate that sticks out alot and causes injuries when walking past. A quick solution to your door strike is to gently tap the lip of the strike receiver with a hammer. Your goal is to gently turn the excessively long lip of the striker downwards so that it does not catch your arm as you walk by it. If you have a vice in your tool shop it will even be simpler as you can clamp the strike receiver on the vice and tap the lip inwards. A more challenging solution would be to grind it down with a grinder.

This is a great option to accompany a deadbolt and long pull handle to hold the door shut while not locked. Magnetic catches are installed along the side of the door. Customers will want to order two 2 magnetic catches: one close to the top of the door and one close to the bottom of the door. If you order magnetic catches with your door, we will automatically install the magnetic catch into the face of the handle-side side-cap. However, we will NOT prep for the magnetic catches in the jamb post. Because installations can vary greatly from site to site, it is best to install the jamb hardware only after the door has been installed and the final position is determined. In many cases, customers wish to purchase sidelights for their door units. The Ogden sidelights are built as a separate unit. You will need a 2 inch structural support post installed between the sidelights and door frame.

Door latches come in a variety of styles and types, and are probably more versatile than you might think. If you just want a latch to keep a door closed, then you probably can get away with a simple hook-and-eye latch. Regardless of which type you go with, make sure to take your time when installing, otherwise you can end up having to re-position the latch and be left with unsightly screw holes. The high number of brands, styles and sizes available online can be overwhelming, so we narrowed down our selection to the most common types, and chose the best option for each category. We appreciate how thick the parts of this latch are, unlike the thinner, less rugged options you might be used to seeing.
