Downfall German : Der Untergang is a historical war drama film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel from a screenplay by its producer, Bernd Eichinger. The film is a German-Austrian-Italian co-production. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on 14 September It was controversial with audiences for showing a human side of Hitler, and for its portrayal of members of the Third Reich. It later received a wide theatrical release in Germany under its production company Constantin Film. Critics gave favourable reviews, particularly for Ganz's performance as Adolf Hitler and Eichinger's screenplay. In November Adolf Hitler invites a number of women to interview for the position of personal secretary at his headquarters on the Eastern Front.

Featuring an indelible performance by Bruno Ganz Nosferatu The Vampyre as history's most notorious despot, Downfall gives a gripping insight into the madness and desperation of a tyrants final hours. I've watched this film a couple of times now and as a historian with a BA in History I am always looking for the little things that were done right or wrong in a film. One thing that's always bothered me is how Hitler is refered to as the most notorious figure of the era while very clearly Stalin is by far the most heinous dictator of the time having been responsible for the death of easily twice as many people and the enslavement of so many more,. I am a fan of all war movies but especially WWII. All actors were top notch and very believable in their lines and mannerisms. It's not so much about the fighting with this movie. Yes there is some shooting and explosions but this movie gives what I think is a believable peek at Hitler and some the top Nazis final days. I never sympathize with Nazis but some were very "innocent" people who just were caught up. I am glad some lived to be old. Feeling pity for genocidal murderer was the intention of this movie and the director. Well done and probably THE closest we will ever get to witness regarding this evil dictator who advocated total war against his own people and the annihilation of what he has termed, 'international jewry'.

And that is considered to be one of the better fates that may have befelled her.
