After Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn removed much of the Driver's dialogue, Bryan Cranston felt that his character, Shannon, should make up for the lack of talking in the film, and thus made Shannon a motormouth. Much of his dialogue is improvised. The Driver and Irene actually say very little to each other, primarily because Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan felt that their scenes should be more focused on the mood and refused to say many of the scripted lines. Parents need to know that this superbly made crime drama which won the prestigious Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival starts off quietly but eventually contains shocking amounts of violence, including a woman's head getting blown apart by a shotgun blast and the main character stomping a man's head…. The main character upsets his stripped-down, carefully planned life and opens his heart just a bit but finds that it results in nothing but pain and violence. The main character leads a life of crime, and his only good deed involves more crime. He also falls in love with a married woman, and all of his actions result in violence. This movie starts off slowly and quietly, but soon there are astonishing amounts of bloody, gory, shocking violence. A woman's head is blown off with a shotgun.

He is offhanded in his appearance, but down and dirty in every aspect of his life, and like most wise guys, he doesn't hesitate to kill even his closest compadres. I think Drive was one of the better movies that came out of , it has everything that you could want in an action movie. However, the creators and writers have so many brilliant ideas, twists and thrills that there's no way that they can fit this into a motion picture. Johnny Jewel of "Desire" and the "Chromatics" assembled a magnificent score, both atmospheric and memorable. Refn delivers magic moments of car play, from the near ten minute opening getaway extended sequence, to a high speed kill or be killed pursuit, when the action flows it really pumps the adrenalin. Moments in conversation where a 'normal' person would express their feelings or be more extroverted, are instead tension filled passages of silence that speak louder than words.

I was always curious to see this movie, but unfortunately missed it. But it begs the question: is Driver somehow different? Drive is different, intense, brutal and simple, Drive is not like any other thief action film with a loud music, lot of gunshot, jump from here to there, it's not, Drive is a face pacing movie that will keep you interested every single second of it, fills with incredible performance by all the cast especially Ryan Gosling, Drive is a great time. Some powerful performances, stylish direction and intricate plotting complete this strangely understated production. Police Officer. Is 'Drive' based on a book? Ryan Gosling's wooden performance and his senseless character are just pointless and has not any interesting or deep element. Drive is one long meandering ride of strained seriousness.
