I assume it just holds the gears till higher rev before change. If that is the case - anyone got any experience of how the fuel economy is affected if I just leave it on? Reprogrammes the shift point for the gear box. Does not change anything to do with the engine output. I have found it makes the changes more snatchy but its a more sporty feel The ECT power on, gives you more power, if you drive more aggressively with this power, consumption will go up.

In PWR the trans downshifts very quickly with the lightest throttle blip and it seems to upshift and lock at much higher revs. But if you stomp the pedal and run it up to k RPM and then let off the throttle - even if you completely take your foot off of the throttle - I found that the transmission does not upshift immediately. I commented on my review of the M35 that this was a feature of the M trans that I liked very much. This is great if you are on the highway and need to cut through a series of slower moving cars.
