These are a few pictures of our team during the COVID prep work to ensure that the dedicated areas were ready and safe to receive Covid patients. We were responsible to build divisions, install plexi glass dividers and secure the affected units which consisting of everything from repairs to new installations. Even during the pandemic our internal staff prepared and planted a beautiful flower bed at the main entrance to add a little joy and color for the patients coming to our hospital. Our team was matching not only with our positive energy or face masks, but also our blue scrubs. Two pics are from the HR meetings- all working from home, working to fufill position and trying to find ways to make it better! This photo was taken right after lunch time; that was the hour we would all look forward to. We would wolf down our food, then sit back and share our stories and the latest news. Somehow we would always end up laughing at silly anecdotes that sounded hilarious at the time. More often than not someone would bring dessert for the others. There was this atmosphere of mutual understanding and help where we let ourselves be honest and vulnerable with each other. Fang was happy to join in on the comradery and was always ready to offer some much appreciated insight when we needed it.

One of five integrated healthcare networks in the city, the West-Central Montreal CIUSSS encompasses a total of 34 healthcare facilities and services, including the JGH, five long-term care homes, three rehab hospitals, community clinics, outpatient services and home care. Now, we can make decisions in minutes and hours, not weeks and days. Healthcare is one of them, so our goal is to allow the team in the room to receive and react to information quickly to facilitate efficiencies where we might not have been able to before. Command Centre staff are able to see the number of patients waiting in the Emergency Department for acute care beds, alternative level of care ALC patients waiting for transfer out of acute care, patient length of stay data, and capacity information in the long-term care and rehab facilities. By February 15, with the Command Centre in operation, the hospital had only 22 ALC patients taking up acute care beds. In addition to inpatient rehab and long-term care, Command Centre staff are able to direct patients to virtual rehab at home, said Mary Lattas, associate director of Rehabilitation and Multidisciplinary Services. It predicts which patients are going to need elevated levels of care.
