Any woman who makes positive waves in the world of sport, no matter what her role is, should be celebrated. As more female figures make their way into the sporting limelight, especially in the male dominated areas, more cracks appear in the glass ceiling. Emily Frazer, the managing director of Matchroom Multi Sport, is one example of how taking a plunge into the deep end can shape your entire career. Matchroom was initially known for its snooker and boxing, with the latter sport becoming a huge success under founder Barry Hearn and his son Eddie. Darts and poker are also hugely popular for the company, as is pool, but this wasn't always the case. Frazer sat down with GiveMeSport to reflect on the journey of Matchroom Multi Sport, as well as her own career growth. Frazer has helped the status of nineball pool grow impressive amounts. From hosting just three events a year, Matchroom now organise the World Championships and run 10 annual Nineball tournaments around the world. In the beginning, the now widely popular Nineball pool was included in the 'special events' department, which Frazer admitted consisted of "about three people" and included "all the sports that no one really wanted. There was about 12 people sat in the audience watching this event," Frazer said. She admitted it was difficult to work out what the problem was. Were the hardcore fans preferring to watch from home? The television viewing numbers weren't suggesting so.
