The competition is linked with the —23 UEFA Nations League , which gives countries a secondary route to qualify for the final tournament. A total of 53 UEFA member associations entered the qualifying process. The draw for the qualifying group stage took place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt on 9 October The format is similar to the UEFA Euro qualifying competition: the group stage decided 20 of the 23 teams that would advance to the final tournament to join host Germany. Group qualifying on the road to Euro is complete, and we now know 21 of the 24 teams who will compete in Germany next summer. Three places are still up for grabs through the playoffs -- with paths created via the final positions of the UEFA Nations League. Germany will be in Pot 1 as hosts, joined by the five group winners with the best record in qualifying. The three playoff winners will be in Pot 4. There will be six groups of four teams, with each group will having one team from each pot. So, there could be a group of Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy. The League A path is then completed with a team from League B team. That means five nations from League B get a playoff, the four by right and one to fill up League A. They are one-legged ties, a semifinal and a final, to be played on March 21 and 26 next year respectively.
