Aerospace nerds like us geek out over all kinds of stuff: Innovative, high-performance microtube heat exchangers. Next-gen Moon buggies. The history of air conditioning in homes, vehicles, and aircraft. Flexible, ablative heat shields. Superalloys and polymer nanocomposites. Well, we think we might have this argument won before it begins. Bring it!

Mission The FE Strike Eagle is a dual-role fighter designed to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. An array of avionics and electronics systems gives the FE the capability to fight at low altitude, day or night and in all weather. Features The aircraft uses two crew members, a pilot and a weapon systems officer. Previous models of the F are assigned air-to-air roles; the "E" model is a dual-role fighter. It has the capability to fight its way to a target over long ranges, destroy enemy ground positions and fight its way out. The aircraft's navigation system uses a laser gyro and a Global Positioning System to continuously monitor the aircraft's position and provide information to the central computer and other systems, including a digital moving map in both cockpits. The APG radar system allows aircrews to detect ground targets from long ranges. One feature of this system is that after a sweep of a target area, the crew freezes the air-to-ground map then goes back into air-to-air mode to clear for air threats. During the air-to-surface weapon delivery, the pilot is capable of detecting, targeting and engaging air-to-air targets while the WSO designates the ground target. The low-altitude navigation and targeting infrared for night, or LANTIRN, system allows the aircraft to fly at low altitudes, at night and in any weather conditions, to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons.

With over victories and zero losses in aerial combat, it has earned its reputation as one of the most fearsome fighter jets in the US arsenal. This marked the birth of the F, an all-weather tactical fighter jet featuring twin engines and designed to outclass any potential adversary. It was one of the first fighter jets to be designed according to the air superiority doctrine as opposed to interceptors of the USAF. The initial versions of the Eagle comprised the single-seat F and the twin-seat training TF variants. The inaugural flight of the FA took place on July 27, , with the two-seat FB completing its maiden flight a year later. The aircraft entered service in January The F features a semi-monocoque fuselage constructed from all-metal materials, complemented by a substantial cantilever and shoulder-mounted wing.

Structured from least to most, here are the most expensive fighter jets in the world. All prices are adjusted to reflect their status in dollars, and all prices indicate per unit cost not including research and development costs. So, without further ado, enjoy learning about the most expensive military jets in the world. Some consider the Mig superior to other fourth-generation American and European fighter jets of their time. The jet entered service in and continues to adapt to meet modern-day threats of enemy fighters. Russia, Ukraine and India operate the majority of all MiGs ever made. The MiG reaches a maximum speed of about 1, mph, which is above Mach 2. It is outfitted with one Tumansky R turbojet which gives the MiG a maximum speed of 1, mph.
