I'm 2 chapters in and, while it's an easy enough read, there is nothing enjoyable about the book. The writing is highly contrived and does nothing to make the main character sympathetic or even interesting. Life just sort of happens to this charmed-yet-cursed make up your mind already boy.

Too-clever literary devices—the omniscient narrator parentheticals were tiresome, the outlining of the plays tedious— but Groff's writing is so sublime, so ridiculously fine, I hardly cared. Learning that the whole year was Wilder's way of mentoring her absolutely undid me, and I love him somehow even more than I did in books one and two. This series. It picked up right where it left off, and there was so much to resolve. It provides a lot of context and backstory for some characters who come into play here and will no doubt continue to be quite important in book 4.

Still, people talk about it. Critics love it, or — even better — debate its merits. Like Gone Girl , Fates and Furies is about a marriage in which each partner has a radically disparate view, not just of their union, but of the type of narrative constituted by their lives.

Their hints about Wilder and her, about her lifespan, leaves me with hope! I suppose this is within the realm of possibility, but Groff changes Lotto so completely and instantaneously that the change just does not ring true. This series, and this book in particular has a lot of side characters. As a story, it splits open the melon of marriage to show the overripe flesh inside and a core that is on the verge of rotting. Oh, my. But what is the truth behind that whiff of decay? The prose is just horrible and ludicrous. If you love Romantasy, you absolutely need to read these books because they will change your life! I hated this novel. I hadn't read anything else by Groff, but I've had Arcadia waiting on my shelf for a long time which I will definitely get to sometime soon. However there was the sense Groff will write a good novel.
