Take a journey through the neighborhoods surrounding golden horn. This area has always been an important center of fishing, agriculture, and transportation. In honor of the fact that it has provided abundance since its first settlement, the area is known as the Golden Horn. Golden Horn particularly attracts with its fish restaurants located in renovated historical buildings. It is located within the district of Fatih, on the western side of the Golden Horn. The area was first known as Fanarion , after the most important lighthouse in the Golden Horn , which was located here. A wide variety of historical churches, mosques and houses are located in Fener. The Patriarchate is still located here, and, as a result, the area is an important center for the Orthodox Church. The areas architectural monuments, churches, synagogues, public baths, and markets preserve their rich historical quality even today. It is almost as though an historical picture of Istanbul over the past years spreads out before you. However, we recommend that you use the cable car you will certainly enjoy the two-minute journey. The cafe consists of a stone terrace decorated in traditional Turkish motifs, and sits facing the Golden Horn on the hills of Eyup. Postcards, gifts, and books are sold in another section of the cafe. Furthermore, behind the cafe, there is a separate complex of other cafes, restaurants, and hotels designed in the style of old Istanbul houses. The starters consist of cold and then hot mezes. If after this you are still hungry, you can eat hot meze or a fish that will be grilled without sauce accompanied by a salad, and a nice slice of raw onion, and lemon. You can find here our table of fish by season. Eating good fish in Istanbul is possible if you know the right places!
My wife and I have been coming to Istanbul on a fairly regular basis for business, and we always stay in Kumkapi, just west of the Sultanahmet district, at the Sultanahmet Suites a updated review of our stay at that delightful residence will be forthcoming. One reason we like Kumkapi is that it has not, at least as of today, been overrun with tourists. Until tonight, however, we had resisted revisiting the numerous fish restaurants in Kumkapi which are only about four blocks from our residence because of the touristic atmosphere, the pushiness of the staff at some restaurants, and quite frankly, the belief that we weren't receiving good value at the dinner table. All that ended tonight. We went on line to Tripadvisor to see if there was a restaurant recommended for fine dining, value, and more of a true Turkish atmosphere regarding hospitality. One restaurant recommended was the Kumkapi Fener Fish Restaurant, and I can only repeat what other guests at that restaurant have said: It was a wonderful meal, excellently prepared, and served by a courteous and knowledgeable waiting staff. We were eating lightly, and chose only two meze a delightful mussel salad and a wonderful cold eggplant dish. For the main course, we both were going to order grilled levrek when the waiter politely suggested we share one grilled levrek with a levrek stew as our alternative entree. I love grilled fish, but the levrek stew with mushrooms and a light tomato sauce was spectacular. Paired with a dry white wine from Pamukkale, and followed by both a fresh fruit course and an usually good hot helvah pudding for lack of a better word , our dinner was indeed memorable.

Use any combination to refine your search. No wonder I put on five kilos in five days. Maybe it had not been discovered yet. Turkish people value a lot the quality of the products used in their dishes Turks eat at all hours, and you will These establishments exist since the Byzantine empire, they were located in the coastal cities and used to welcome the sailors who wanted to drink while having a nice meal. So how do you choose the best restaurant when every single person has told you something that one way or another has to be a lie? Maybe a wedge of lemon and some kind of green leaf that is more for appearance than something that augments the taste. If you do what I say then you should end up at Kumkapi Meydan, a small circle with a fountain that has streets lined with fish restaurants leading to it. However, the neighborhood has also started to become an attractive area for new establishments as well as some very delicious classics. We took a look at the best eats in Fener-Balat. But if you do what I did you will miss it entirely and end up wandering through the back streets of the neighborhood until you finally find an opening that gets you to the sea by following people carrying fishing poles and hoping they are going fishing instead of going home from fishing. By the sea there were kids swimming off the rocks, a young guy hauling large bags of mussels out of the water and strangest of all a small table with two rifles and a pistol where you could shoot at colored balloons or the line of bottles placed on the rocks like a makeshift penny arcade. The train comes about every fifteen minutes and goes right to Sirkeci Station just a couple blocks from our hotel where we arrive just in time for the free mezes that they serve every afternoon. An experience not to be missed. Then when you feel you are ready order a salad. We would go to the restaurant where they didn't seem to give a shit whether you ate there or not. Some no more than a cloth covered board on cinder blocks. Remember to book for the weekend because there are always a lot of people. By the sea there were kids swimming off the rocks, a young guy hauling large bags of mussels out of the water and strangest of all a small table with two rifles and a pistol where you could shoot at colored balloons or the line of bottles placed on the rocks like a makeshift penny arcade. Some on bicycles. Carefully renovated in beautiful turquoise colors this historic tavern is a must-go! Not like the others.
