In Nier: Automata , you are able to upgrade your weapons and Pods through crafting by using various materials that you find throughout your playthrough. However, certain crafting materials are a lot more scarce than others, and some can be missable if you don't follow the correct steps. We've got everything you need to know about upgrading your Pods and weapons and where to find all of the necessary crafting materials listed right here. When it comes to items obtained by quests, any prerequisite quests you must complete are also mentioned so you can easily get the quests you need. After upgrading all of your weapons, these NPCs will tell you about the Master Swordsmith Masamune, who can upgrade weapons even further. Masamune can upgrade weapons to level 4, sells a variety of weapons, and will also gift you with the Cruel Lament weapon once you have upgraded any weapon to level 4. Masamune can be found in The Forest Zone, inside of the castle. While moving through the side-scrolling sections of the castle, you will encounter snake-like machines called Linked-Sphere Type machines. Once you have encountered the second Linked-Sphere Type machine, after working your way up through the library, you will be doubling back on yourself and jumping across to the next building. You want to aim for the lower ledge to find Masamune, as shown below. There is a crate blocking the way that you will need to drag backward first, after which, you'll be able to run in and see the Master Swordsmith himself.

For those not wanting to wait for Filler Metal, the first save room in the Abandoned Factory: Underground has 3 potential harvest points. At least 2 of those 3 are always up, and they have a good chance of containing Filler Metal. Ok, give me the bomb. I finished the game last night.
