After a mini-tutorial on button presses and selecting New Game , You will be greeted by Professor Oak. He'll also ask if you are a boy or girl so choose the gender. Then name your character and your biggest rival after he'll introduce you to his grandson. Pallet Town is a rather boring, quaint town, with only three buildings. Welcome to the port town of Vermilion City. Here, you will find the luxury liner S. Go to the house in the northwest of this town. Inside, you will meet up with an old man obsessed with fishing. Sadly, it doesn't catch much - but if you don't own a Magikarp yet, you can easily get your hands on one now. Enter the building north of the gym to encounter another trader. Here, you can trade a boring Spearow against the more rare Farfetch'd. Not bad, huh? That's all you can do here. Now move on to Route 11, which is located to the east of Vermilion City.

When you start the game, Oak explains to you the basics of Pokemon, and you are prompted to choose between a male trainer and a female trainer. The only difference being the kind of bag you use, and your gender. You begin your journey in your room in Pallet Town. In the top left hand corner of your room, grab the Potion out of the PC. Rock Tunnel can be exhausting, so the player may need to bring a few extra items. Potions are a must with fifteen Trainers wandering around in the darkness, and Repels and Escape Ropes are also helpful. The area near the entrance is pretty linear. There are five Trainers in this area, along with a Revive in the southwest corner. Earn some battle experience , and take the next ladder. Three Trainers lurk in the darkness here. Loop around to the east to get an Escape Rope , then go north to find the ladder. Another three Trainers line this part of the tunnel.
