However, is it actually true that products made in China are not ethically produced? Well, maybe some items are made unethically. There has been documentation to prove that. However, there is also documented proof of unethical production in the United States and other parts of the world as well. Just look at our prison labor. Some brands such as Grant Stone are attempting to prove successfully in my opinion that products can be made well and ethically in China. However, there is one concrete way to ensure that a product is made ethically and that is to buy from a small family workshop or one person brand. The great thing about a one person or family shop is that the quality and ethics of production are entirely up to one person or a few people who know each other very well. As long as the techniques are sound and the materials are of good quality, then the products can be great and the person making the product is treated as well as they want to treat themselves. Cuffing jeans is pretty much a default for most fans of raw denim and Amekaji-heritage clothing. In fact, this love of cuffing extends to all trousers, not just jeans. I myself cuffed all my trousers by default for the last years. I do not like outsourced production of products. Overall, I believe that it has absolutely no place in the Amekaji scene.

Upon receiving my monkey boots from Flame Panda , I was quite impressed. I praised the materials, design, craftsmanship, and overall quality in my review already, but I actually have grown to love these boots even more than I did when I wrote that article. What is more, is that I have continued to talk to and get to know the owner of Flame Panda , Peng which has made me even more curious about him as a person and as a bootmaker. He hails from China, but not one of the largest, well known cities and he shares a lot about his local cuisine and culture which I really love. He also makes amazing boots, but I had no idea how he got so good at making them. Not only was he willing, but he was incredibly honest and open with his responses to my questions. He gave a lot of insight into his past, his craft, so I hope you enjoy reading this interview. I know that some people who like what we do will read this interview.
