By using the information stored in Fluctlights rather than computer data, the STL can insert "Mnemonic Visual Data," or memories, directly into the Divers. This makes the Divers feel as if they're experiencing everything happening to them rather than simply having it simulated.

Rather than limit itself to one world, Sword Art Online has made use of a variety of game worlds that its protagonists adventure through. Getting attached to characters like Eugeo, Alice, and Bercouli, among others, is what made the conflicts that comprised the Alicization arc so engaging.

Underworld is set in a past era, when science and philosophy were just being discovered, but instead of recreating a past era, limited terrain and certain customs were introduced so that the inhabitants of the world would form their own society.
