Forspoken is an open-world RPG set in the fantastical world of Athia, a land ravaged by a magical plague known forspoken playtime the Break. Frey, the protagonist, can survive the Break, forspoken playtime, and her adventure takes her across this continent, hunting down sorceresses and getting gradually stronger as she goes.

The open-world activities consist of Mutant creatures to fight, enemy strongholds to take down, parkour challenges, Familiars to befriend, stat-boosting monuments, and more. If you undertake even just a few detours and spend time exploring your playtime can easily double. Our own playthrough of Forspoken clocked in at roughly 28 hours, undertaking most of the Detours found in the city, and exploring a bit of the open world. Forspoken is split up into thirteen different story chapters, although the length of these chapters can vary wildly. Story focused-chapters can be over in 30 minutes, while chapters that dump you into the open world can take hours upon hours. That being said, there is a pretty substantial post-game for players to wade through after the credits roll.

During an interview in September of , Forspoken 's co-director Takeshi Tareda claimed that it would take most players between 30 and 40 hours to complete the main story , with more time needed for a completionist run. However, it now appears as though Mr. Tareda may have been over-exaggerating things just a little. Either that, or the devs seriously underestimated the skill level of the average player. With Forspoken now available to players all over the world, many are discovering that the main story of the game is quite a bit shorter than Mr. Tareda's comments first implied. Thankfully, for those hoping for a meatier experience, there is plenty of side content available to help bring the total playtime up toward the developer's initial completion estimate. Most players will be able to complete the main story of Forspoken in well under 20 hours. In fact, for those who completely ignore all of the game's side content, 12 hours is perhaps a more realistic estimate, particularly when playing on one of the game's easier difficulty settings. This may seem a little short to some, though a lot of the side content in Forspoken is well-worth exploring and players will likely find themselves instinctively doing so as they set about saving Athia.
