Previous entries in this series can be found through this link. Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon probably released at the wrong time. And even your more niche gamers who would be paying attention to the release schedule of a publisher like XSeed were focused on things like Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, or Infinite Space, or… OK well maybe I do mean the wrong time of year, too. It is a game trying to share a feeling more than it is anything else. There is some action, sure, and a little exploration to be done, but it is mostly about that one feeling, and how all consuming it can be. Fragile Dreams is a game about loneliness, and trying to confront that loneliness, and those feelings permeate almost every facet of it. Fragile Dreams certainly has its issues, having to do with tedium or just some strange lack of quality of life decisions that were hard to ignore in and are even more difficult to ignore now. But what it does well — crafting a sense of loneliness that reflects the game world and the state of mind of the protagonist, Seto — worked in , and probably works even better now, considering the trajectory of the reality we live in. Stephanie Sterling reviewed the game for Destructoid back when it released , and this paragraph gets at the heart of things:. And yet … I love this game. I love this insulting, infuriating waste of time. I will never, ever play Fragile Dreams again. However, I am intensely glad that I have played it once. For everything this game does wrong, and it does nearly everything wrong, it manages to make up for it with a sublime story, amazing characters and some of the most memorable scenes I have ever had the pleasure to witness. At times I truly did want to throw my controller and turn the Wii off.

In Fragile Dreams , the player character, Seto, must traverse the ruins of Tokyo and the surrounding areas, fighting off ghosts that lurk within these ruins. Seto will fall unconscious if his HP reaches zero, resulting in a game over. The player controls Seto from a third-person perspective with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Seto can use his flashlight controlled by the Wii Remote pointer to illuminate his surroundings or solve puzzles and interact with the environment. When searching for certain objectives or hidden enemies, pointing Seto's light in their direction picks up and plays their sounds through the Wii Remote's mini speaker.
How do you review a game that has simultaneously brought you endless frustration and endless wonder? A game that has made you want to throw the controller and keep your eyes glued to the screen with a dropped jaw all at once? Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon is a conundrum. A deep, dark, desolate and thoroughly beautiful experience married to an aggravating, repetitive and lacking game. Fragile Dreams is brilliant. It is also quite bad. Yet it is also very good. How do you review a game like this? Then you get kicked in the back by a giggling pair of ghost legs that appeared out of nowhere. Did I mention this game is weird as Hell, too?

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon is as beautiful and dreamy as the title implies. Described as an adventure game, Fragile Dreams borrows elements from the survival horror genre, but what sets this game apart are the striking visuals and character designs from the team at Tri-Crescendo, the developer behind the gorgeous-looking Eternal Sonata. We had an opportunity to play a preview build of Fragile Dreams and found ourselves quickly absorbed in this lonely postapocalyptic world. For a deserted world, it sure is beautiful. That's it, really. If you have to emulate it, do it, because as frustrating as the game can be, as much as I had to work my way through bit by bit in between other games, it was worth it to experience the parts of Fragile Dreams that work exceptionally well. She's gonna be the catalyst for it. It is either the perfect game to play in this historical moment, or, the one you most want to avoid. Whenever one of these objects is found, a short, voiced cutscene plays, with art of the object in the background and text being spoken in the foreground. From a simple sentence describing someone to a new article, anything is appreciated. Matt Casamassina from IGN gave the game a score of 6. Making it into the room where Ren is being held, Shin tells them of his intention to use Glass Cage to "obliterate corporeal beings". Namco Bandai Games Inc. Why are you The localization uses "Glass Cage", which in addition to making sense of the title Fragile also makes sense in that scientists were essentially trying to smash the restrictions of communication to sound and words, both of which were thought to be fundamentally limited like a cage. Criticism largely came from the gameplay of Fragile Dreams , which, in many reviewers' perspective, was not balanced with the game's outstanding style. Please select province Please select province.
