The Fullmetal Alchemist manga and anime series feature an extensive cast of fictional characters created by Hiromu Arakawa, fullmetal alchemist father. The story is set in a fictional universe within the 20th century in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood largely focuses on the Elric brothers and their quest to atone for their crime of human transmutation. But the series soon makes it clear that alchemy runs in their family. The brothers lost their beloved mother Trisha Elric years ago, and they weren't the only ones to mourn her. Their dad, Van Hohenheim, always regreted losing his wife, which was only the latest loss of many. Van Hohenheim first appeared in Fullmetal Alchemist as Ed and Al's estranged father, a well-dressed bearded man with a blond ponytail to match Ed's and alchemy skills, which were unlike anything the world has ever seen. His life story is a bizarre one, even in a world of deadly homunculi and talking human-animal hybrids.

He is almost identical to Hohenheim since he was created from Hohenheim's blood back in Xerxes. Was responsible for the destruction of Xerxes, which gave him immortality. His future plans are unknown, but they involve, between others, Ed and Al Scheming from the shadows, he waits for the "Promised Day". His main ability is to perform alchemy by just thinking about it and without any need to move. A-G Abusive Parents : He raises his children specifically to act as pawns in his plan and likely feels no parental attachment to them. After Greed refuses to rejoin Father's plans, he decides to melt him down to a Philosopher Stone in what looks like molten metal: possibly gold.
Faux Affably Evil : When he first meets the Elric brothers he does act genuinely Affably Evil due to having Greed inside of him influencing his behavior or more accurately, fullmetal alchemist father, absorbing Greed allowed him to regain some of his initial genuine affability fullmetal alchemist father had before he discarded his emotionsbut drops this quickly once he notices Ling's presence and orders Gluttony to eat him without so much as batting an eyelash. Arrogant and self-righteous, he deems only power over and ownership of the world, "perfect goodness and being", and "divine order" worthy of his attention, and he sought to become absolutely "superior" to the human race. One of his outward looks bears a striking resemblance to Van Hohenheim.

Father is the creator and leader of all the homunculi as depicted in the manga, and mastermind of the many atrocities that result from the countless wars and border disputes within the story. Father does not appear in the first anime series, effectively replaced by Dante who, likewise, does not appear in the manga.
Izumi tried and failed to revive the child through human transmutation an act that created Wrath in the first anime. This superiority complex increased into a god complex when Father became a living Philosopher's Stone. As such when he is forced into an actual fight and cannot rely on these strategies, he is relatively easy to defeat since he has little knowledge of how to defeat his opponents.
